01/26/2013 – Around 3:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon, Parkersburg firefighters were dispatched to a sledding accident in the 1800 block of 8th Ave. (South Parkersburg). A 33 year old female was inner tubing, with her own and several neighborhood children, when she proceeded past the end of the course and landed approximately 12 feet down in a creek.
Crews from Camden Clark Ambulance requested assistance from the fire department to retrieve the woman. The woman was backboarded and placed in a stokes rescue basket. After she was lifted out of the creek bed, firefighters then used ropes and cables to hoist the woman nearly 175 feet up the enbankment. Emergency crews were on scene nearly an hour. The woman was transported by ambulance with a suspected broken leg.
