Beginning Tuesday, December 2nd, the Parkersburg Fire Department will begin accepting food donations for the Humane Society of Parkersburg, during the fire department’s 2nd Annual Holiday Pet Food Drive. The city’s six fire stations will serve as drop off points.
This event originated from an idea to give back to the community during the Christmas season and help those that are unable to help themselves. The Humane Society is requesting the following items:
“Most households have a pet and those dogs or cats are part of the family. During the holidays, we ask the public to remember the animals in the shelters that don’t have a family to take care of them,” said Fire Chief Eric Taylor.
“The Humane Society cares for these animals 365 days a year and they can always use a little help. During the holidays, the fire department is trying to give them a hand with their continuous need for food and cleaning supplies,” added Taylor.
Drop offs can be made Monday thru Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. While it is preferred that drop offs be made at Fire Station 1, in the first floor of the City building, any station will receive the drop offs. The event will run thru the end of December.
