Food Drive to Benefit Humane Society of Parkersburg

Beginning Monday, December 17th, the Parkersburg Fire Department will begin accepting food donations for the Humane Society of Parkersburg, during the fire department’s 1st Annual Holiday Pet Food Drive. The city’s six fire stations will serve as drop off points.

This event originated from an idea to give back to the community during the Christmas season and help those that are unable to help themselves. The Humane Society is requesting the following items:

  • canned dog or cat food
  • bleach & paper towels
  • non-clumping cat litter

“Most households have a pet and those dogs or cats are part of the family. During the holidays, we ask the public to remember the animals in the shelters that don’t have a family to take care of them,” Fire chief Eric Taylor.

“The Humane Society cares for these animals 365 days a year and they can always use a little help. During the holidays, the fire department is trying to give them a hand with their continuous need for food and cleaning supplies,” adds Taylor.

Drop offs can be made Monday thru Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. While it is preferred that drop offs be made at Fire Station 1, in the first floor of the City building, any station will receive the drop offs. The event will run from December 17th thru Christmas eve.
