Chaplain

The chaplain’s most important duty is to help other firefighters deal with death or serious injury. This includes teaching classes on how to cope with tragedy and assisting with firefighter funerals. The chaplain is there to relieve the stress of the fire department itself or of a family in crisis.

The chaplain is responsible for:

  • inform citizens of the death of loved ones
  • serve as a spokesperson for ceremonial events
  • serve as a liaison with other clergy
  • provide guidance and counseling
  • conduct memorial services
  • invocations and benedictions at official city functions
